This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with a diverse group of students with disabilities in a special day class program. My school is a Title I school in a low income neighborhood where most of the families struggle to meet their basic needs. Many of my students have little access to technology or books at home, so they are excited to come to school to learn and experience new things. They often ask to bring home books so they can share with their families.
My Project
Many of my students have very few books to read at home. I want to make a class library of leveled book bags my students can take home to read with their families. Each week they will have the opportunity to check out a new set of books that are at their own reading level. I want all of my students to explore the world that is waiting for them when they love what they read. If you help fund this project, you will be helping a diverse group of students with special needs thrive.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase both student and family engagement, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
