This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In today’s digital age, students are constantly engaged with technology, leaving little time for face-to-face interactions that build essential social skills. As a middle school teacher, I see firsthand how important peer interaction is for developing communication, teamwork, and critical thinking. My goal is to provide my 7th-grade students with engaging educational games that encourage collaboration, problem-solving, and meaningful social connections—skills that will serve them for a lifetime.

My students are curious, creative, and eager to learn.

They thrive when given hands-on opportunities to work together, yet their time spent on screens limits these interactions. This project will help bring them together in a positive, structured way, allowing them to develop interpersonal skills while enjoying the learning process.

I would like to provide my students with a variety of board games, card games, and cooperative strategy games that enhance critical thinking, social interaction, and problem-solving. These games—including classics like “Battleship” and newer educational options like “Blokus,” —will encourage face-to-face engagement, foster teamwork, and build confidence in communication.

Games provide an invaluable opportunity for students to practice essential soft skills like negotiation, conflict resolution, and cooperation—all within a fun and supportive environment. By integrating these games into our classroom routine, students will learn to interact more effectively, listen actively, and support one another while reinforcing academic concepts in math, literacy, and strategy.
