This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When my students walk into my classroom, they bring the knowledge of the many challenges that await beyond the school walls with them. However, this doesn't stop them from bringing the full force of their curiosity and best selves into Biology class. They are creative, determined, and proud of their successes and those of their peers.

I work with my students to create a classroom community that makes their questions and ideas the driving force of our learning.

With a diverse school community and many students who have English as a second language, my goal is to help students realize the full potential of their exploration, even in a subject that can be difficult for native English speakers. With the proper tools, all my students can be given the support and confidence to succeed in high school and beyond!

My Project

After a hard year and a half of online learning, we are bringing physical notebooks back to the Biology classroom. One comment I heard from students during our remote learning year is how much they missed keeping a notebook, especially when it was time to review for assessments! These materials will ensure that each student has a personal notebook for the year of learning. Having glue, tape, and post-its available will ensure that students can keep their materials secure and the hanging file folders will give students a space to store their work so it doesn't get lost. Of course, learning can't happen alone, so supplies like the easel paper, markers (both for paper and chalk for writing on tables), and expo markers will help students collaborate and share their learning with their peers.

As we return to in-person learning, these supplies will support students who are eager to step away from screens and engage in the hands-on activities they've been missing.

This is crucial as all these students are tackling their final two years of high school and an upper level Biology course that requires attention to detail and processing of often unfamiliar information. I want them to be proud of their progress and to have a way to hold the physical evidence of that progress in their hands. My students are ready to succeed with the help of these supplies.
