My Project
COVID-19 slowed down learning for so many of our young people at a very crucial stage. They were stuck every day on the computer trying to learn and keep up, when many of them still learn better with hands on learning and reading an actual book. Our school doesn't have a library and I teach science and social studies to an extremely diverse multilingual/leveled group of fifth graders. I chose a variety of books and labs for a class library that they could relate to, be engaged with and still learn standards while having fun. The science labs are a direct link into our Colorado state standards and cover three of my units. They will give my students the extra interaction that they need, while collaborating and learning/working through things as a team. Especially since my science curriculum is almost all computer based. My students are still learning key social skills that should have been taught when they were younger that Covid prevented. These labs will really benefit them and their understanding of the concepts/topics.
