Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds and are a mixture of Hispanic and African American students. They are also students who have special needs. Parents do their best to provide the bare essentials that their kids need to start school but many times that is all that they can give them. Many of the families have at least 4 kids in the school. It is a lot to ask a family to purchase materials when some of them cannot pay their utility bills. Although the parents and the school community do their best to provide for the children, with budget cuts it is getting harder to provide them with tools for learning.
My Project
The materials donated will allow most of my students to remain in school through out the height of a flu season. Classrooms are like petri dishes. Viruses spread quickly in a classroom of 30 students or more. The materials donated will allow me to daily provide a healthy, clean environment for my students. Today more than ever students suffer from allergies and are exposed to viral diseases because of the lack of hygiene knowledge or the lack of supplies in a classroom to prevent the spread of viral diseases, such as colds and the flu. Furthermore, my students eat lunch in their room. With budget cuts school buildings are neglected because of the lack of custodial personal. My students deserve to learn in a classroom that is clean and inviting. The materials donated will teach them what a warm, inviting and clean environment looks like. Daily students will be given the responsibility to clean their desks and in general the classroom. They will aslo become more aware that it is important to always wash their hands after they have used the washroom.
