My students come from very different backgrounds, but they all have special needs. Some of my students struggle with a specific learning disorder, while others have ADHD or emotional behavioral disorders. I teach two grade levels and a variety of different learners, but they all have two things in common - They deserve to learn in a way best for them, and they've all got me. I want to be prepared and equipped to help them learn in a way that makes the most sense for them.
My Project
For nearly all of my students, math word problems are a challenge. Not only do my students struggle with the language in most word problems, but they have the hardest time visualizing what the problem is describing and how they can best solve the problems. Our current math curriculum has extremely limited hands on manipulatives to help these problems come to life. That's where I need you! By helping purchase these hands on manipulatives and activities from Lakeshore, you will be bringing these complicated math word problems to life. My students will be able to practice solving these problems in a visual way that makes sense to them.
