Help me give my students a conceptual understanding in math. 5th grade is the foundation for middle and high school and they really need to understand concepts so that they are ready.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
5th grade is a very important grade since students need to master some fraction and decimal operations. They need to do this through discovery. In the upcoming years they will be working with fractions, integers, rational numbers, expressions and equations, and it is my job to provide them with a deep understanding of these foundational concepts before they go to middle school. On average my students are about 2 to 3 grades academically behind. These manipulative will allow them to deeply understand concepts that are prerequisites for the math they will be doing.
