Bring Us Closer During Distance Learning

Help me give my students the ability to learn whether we're at school or at home by providing me with a document camera to share my writing, as well as a monitor so I can see them learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, my bilingual third graders and I are having to learn through distance learning, which has not only made our first months challenging, but also highlighted the need for technology in our classes.

As research has shown, being bilingual is an asset to students and these students work very hard to make sure they keep their native language while succeeding in English, also.

They are curious, inquisitive and smart. However, many come from families where their parents did not get a high school education or even speak English, which makes their progress in our educational system harder than for those who come from more privileged backgrounds. At least 76 percent of our school is eligible for free lunch, meaning they have limited funds and do not have access to some resources, which means we need to provide basic needs for them at times.

My Project

Teaching my kids from an empty classroom has been difficult, but not having a document camera to share writing with them makes it even harder. By having a document camera I can share with them how to draw, write, and provides a better learning opportunity. Additionally, having a second monitor has been proven to increase engagement, since the kids know I can see them. I also need headphones with microphones for myself and the kids so we can block out outside noises and hear what we're saying to each other.
