My Students

In my time as a student, we went from using 5.25 inch floppy disk, to a 3.5 inch floppy disk to a USB drive. You know what has been a constant in the classroom from my time to theirs? An overhead projector!! Help us learn better and use all our manipulatives, donate to modernize us.

My school is a small public school located in the south side of Chicago, and faces the same budget issues as other school.

Our student population is approximately 95% African American and about 85% of our students come from a low income families. Although my students come from families that are facing financial hardships, they are full of hope and always excited to learn. They deserve the best of all educational resources. Together, we try and make our classroom one where they learn and keep pace with the rest of the students across the nation.

My Project

A document camera will allow me to differentiate learning. Visual learners will benefit by being able to see enlarged text, demonstrations, or models. Hands-on learners will benefit by being able to come up and demonstrate their thinking by moving objects around. It will also allow us to use 3-D manipulatives for whole class demonstrations and simulations which we cannot do at present. The document camera will provide students with hands-on learning experiences in all subjects. This is a very useful tool that will be utilized daily by me, and all of the 100 students that I teach daily.

My students are in the midst of a technological revolution.

What good is it if they are still learning using an outdated overhead projector? This document camera will change how we learn, and it will allow us to use our manipulatives effectively. It will also give students a chance to talk about and show others what they are thinking. Interacting with technology in itself is a reward, because it will make them question how things work. That inquisitiveness is the foundation to education!
