My Students
When most people go to work, they are greeted by a computer, a register, or a telephone. I get greeted by tiny, smiling faces that are eager to learn. These amazing students are the reason I gladly stay till five at night, come in on the weekends, and toss and turn at night thinking about their successes and areas of improvement.
There is growing scientific evidence that shows students' environment greatly impacts their ability to learn and their test scores.
My goal is to create a classroom environment and provide supplies that help students thrive to the best of their ability. My students are kind, giving, happy and dedicated to their education. Knowing that cheeseburgers are my favorite food, I often hear "Mrs. Crane, meet me in the cafeteria, cheeseburgers are on the menu today. You can share mine with me!" They have pride in who they are, how hard they work at school, and the bond we have made. At my school, more than half of our students are economically disadvantaged, and many come from foster programs and/or are English language learners. My Project
A huge part of Kindergarten is having books in hand. The only way to become a stronger reader is to have access to a lot of different books on a consistent basis. By donating to my project you will give the gift of leveled readers to my students. Leveled readers are books at the students' specific reading level. When students have access to books at their appropriate level, they learn to love reading and this will increase their scores over time.
Majority of my students do not have access to any books at home, yet alone books at their appropriate reading level, however this project will change that!
If this project is fulfilled I plan to send home two books a week so students can practice reading with their families on a nightly basis. Thank you for considering donating to this extremely important cause.
