Help me give my students portable recorders and binders they need to perfect their musical abilities by utilizing the recording devices to study their individual voice parts during rehearsals.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As with any elective, the students choose to be a part of that class. My students are special because they are choosing choir with the understanding that they will be pushed to do more than they have ever been asked to do before. They are going to be asked to go outside of their comfort zone and sing in front of their peers and family which takes an extreme amount of courage for a middle schooler.
Prior to COVID, students knew that if they did not do their work, they would receive bad grades.
COVID interrupted our learning process. Students seen to lack the motivation and drive they had before and the learning environment is more relaxed.
Music in education has been extensively researched and helps students in all areas of cognitive development. In recent years, the middle school choral program at Glenpool Middle School had an average of 70 students involved but unfortunately COVID also negatively affected participation in the music program. Currently, the program has a total of 18 students.
My hope is to bring more students into the program by incorporating activities that will inspire students and better appease their interests. Being able to purchase newer, more up-to-date music and having proper folders, as well as music-grade recording devices for rehearsal purposes, will help me achieve that goal.
