Ms. Garcia from Washington DC is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students access to technology. With these laptops, my students will be able to complete their projects and take ownership of their leadership.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are a wonderful group of diverse 8th graders, many who have immigrated from countries like El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Philippines, Ethiopia, Laos, and the Dominican Republic, amongst others. All 8th grade students at my school are language learners - whether that is learning Spanish for the first time, or learning English. We are a dual language community that works together to learn about societal issues, poetry, theatre, and short stories ALL IN SPANISH!
The majority of my students come from low-income backgrounds and are striving to pursue their education to make a difference in their community.
My students work together to break language barriers and communicate with each other. I have seen students who speak only Spanish work with students who only speak English to collaborate and help each other succeed.
The laptops and keyboard will ensure each student has access to technology in my classroom. My students look forward to completing their projects and assessment online, but sometimes the lack of devices interferes with their effectiveness.
Currently, my largest class has 26 students, but we only have enough devices for 22.
The lack of devices sometimes leads me to ask other teachers to borrow computers, wasting valuable instructional time for the students. With the addition of 3 laptops, and keyboard (for one of the desktops in my class), my entire class will have access to technology for the year.
