About My Students

Emily, Abigail, Michael, Louis and Adrian all want to go on to a Performing Arts High School. They have set their sights and hearts on making music throughout their academic career, which means their odds of going to college will greatly increase. They work extremely hard, and are some of the top performing students in our school. They attend music everyday with zeal and passion. Truly, it is a pleasure teaching them music. I have seen them grow over the last year, and they have the love and dedication for their craft that deserves to be rewarded. The opportunity of going to a performing arts high school will make all the difference to them. These are special performing arts students whose academic performance is greatly effected by their ability to take part in the arts.

This project will make sure that our students have the resources, the violins, to attend and participate in summer camp at a top Performing Arts High School. It is our goal to make sure our students have all they need to go on to a Performing Arts High School after they finish their time with us. By giving them this opportunity, we make sure they go to a competitive school that will greatly increase their odds of going to college as well as being rewarding, and fulfilling their creative and performance needs.

In Their Own Words

We are trying to make sure we have instruments, so we can attend summer camp at a performing arts high school. If we can get the violins and participate in the camp, our chances of getting into the school are much better. For many of us, going to a performing arts high school after we graduate from Mott Hall is a dream come true, so making sure we can get in is the most important thing we can do right now. If we can get these violins we will be able to practice all year long, and be ready for our high school auditions as well as perform in our school and community.

Mr. Clegg has asked that we write emails to people who might donate as well as advertise our music performances at the school and within the community to gain support. He asked that we organize this on our own, so we will have to be leaders in making this happen. We will also run our own bake sales, and do some fundraising events in the school such as bottle drives and car washes, but we will do this all on our own.

This project is important to us and our school because it will bring more music to our classrooms, it will make sure we can go to the high school we want, and it will give us more opportunity to see the world outside of our school. Mr. Clegg has done a lot to make sure we have all the resources to learn music, and go to a performing arts high school, but it still isn't really enough. Having music and arts in our schools should be a right, and we shouldn't have to make such a big deal out of making sure we have music. This project will help prove to our school and our community how important the arts really are by helping us go to a top high school in New York where almost all kids go on to college.
