My Students
I am an Early Intervention Special Education Teacher to amazing students of varying abilities and special needs. The students in the classroom range in age from three to five with every different ability from Autism to Deaf and everything in between. My students are creative, thoughtful and full of energy! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
My children learn through play and imagination and the light table is the most desired learning tool.
Children are naturally drawn to the gentle glow of the light table and tend to stay there for long periods of time, which is great for stretching those budding attention spans. We use the light table to enhance social interactions, literacy, math, and writing skills in fun and playful ways. My students love the table and ours broke, please help us to get another one so the magic can continue.
Much kindness, Ms. Tammy
My Project
Using a light box during structured time together is both fun and educational. My students learn how to bond with their peers, follow directions and stick to a schedule; all skills that prepare them for life. My children are special needs and there are certain activities that work particularly well to keep them engaged, focused and actively learning.
I plan to use the light box as a fun and mesmerizing means to increase their attention spans and learning experiences.
My children can spend hours with a light box, exercising their fine motor skills by creating illuminated patterns and pictures with brightly colored transparent shapes. We practice pre-writing strokes of numbers, letters, and drawings. They are durable for paint, shaving cream, sand and any other sensory related tactile medium. Our light box is used across all academic areas and the students just love it. I love having it in the classroom.
