My Students
“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery. ~ Mark van Doren / I want to have the classroom environment that students remember 10 years from now that they learned through discovery and conducted experiments and not through lectures.
This year room 7 will have both 4th and 5th grade students!
I am eager to be teaching gifted math and science for the first time. The students come from a variety of backgrounds as we are a Gifted Zone Center. Each student is eager to come to school to expand their minds, while their parents work hard to support them. Since we are a Gifted Zone Center, there are a variety of students in my classroom, those with individualized education plans, second language learners, and families who are supported through a variety of programs. The school was also recently Title I.
My Project
The Learning Science Activity Tubs are designed for students 4th - 6th grades. This is ideal for my gifted 4th and 5th graders because they cover science content in both grade levels. Each tub will allow students to participate in hands-on STEM activities, which allows students to problem solve and connect their learning to real-life. While they are learning problem-solving skills they are also discovering the content that is designed for their grade level state standards (ex. matter, simple machines, solar system, cells & organisms, and more!). These activity tubs will allow students to get up and out of their desks, moving, and learning through collaborative labs. The STEM Career Book Sets will allow students to connect their learning to future careers. Too often our students are not aware what career fields are available to them. These career books get them thinking and working towards their future, while also extending their problem solving skills.
Your donation will open up a new world of hands-on learning in room 7!
I am excited to see how my students dive into their STEM learning, expand their problem solving skills, and learn how to work collaboratively.
