My students need hands-on, screen free technology and robotics to discover the world of computational thinking and invigorate their sense of wonder and exercise their creative minds.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
At our school, we DREAM, BELIEVE, and ACHIEVE.
Our students have active, inquiring minds that are just searching for the next problem to solve, bridge to build, and mountain to climb.
We are a K-5 building in the near west suburbs of Chicago. Our students come from low-income families, rich in culture and determination. Many of our students are English Language Learners and all of our students are the bright future of our community.
Our students are avid readers, writers, mathematicians, artists, musicians, and computational thinkers. They are motivated to learn and excited about all new opportunities that come their way.
My Project
Our students have dedicated teachers who would like to give them the world. What we don't have is the funding and access to technologies that will provide them opportunities in an increasingly technological world. They do have access to screen technology, however our STEAM base needs to broaden.
Our students will be using these robotics to practice problem solving, computational thinking, and explore coding.
These skills may help them break into careers we can only dream about. Our students need an outlet and a way to show all that they know using multiple intelligences. In our new STEAM lab, students will use these robotics to build, solve coding problems, develop lessons for other classes, tinker, and prepare for the future.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
