My students need books for our novel study. The ones I have now are 8 years old, so the pages are falling out and the binding is ripping.

My Students

My students are third through fifth graders who have shown promise in reading, mathematics, or problem solving and been placed into a special gifted and talented class because of it. The students come to this class once a week to explore concepts and challenges they would not get to experience in their normal classroom.

They are inquisitive, bright students who want to learn, but who need exciting resources to motivate them to do so.

They need something different than paper and pencil to spice it up a bit.

These students come from three different Title I (high poverty) schools located in North Charleston, SC.

My Project

We need copies of Bud, Not Buddy for a classroom novel study. It is an amazing book for my 4th and 5th graders. Not only are the characters compelling and interesting which really engages the students, but they are people my students can relate to which helps bring them into the novels.

Also, the book ties perfectly into our social studies units.

The book focus on the struggles of life during the Great Depression. It is an eye opening way to learn about this time period without just reading about it in a text book. By hearing it all from the perspective of a narrator their own age it just seems to come alive.
