Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We are an OMA (Opening Minds through Arts) Gold school on the Southside of Tucson, but we have no paint in the classroom! We want to Read, Write, and Paint, adding an art element to our literacy program.
Our students have limited access to painting materials, in school and especially at home.
We would like to showcase their artistic abilities and extend their reading experience using something other than crayons. These little artists deserve to show off the skills our fantastic AIS instructor teaches them. They just need materials to practice their developing artistry.
Every student attends a visual art class once a week and learns how to use different materials and strategies to create beautiful works of art. We want to extend this into the classroom where we will write about and illustrate our thoughts on what we are reading in our literacy block.
With paint, students would be able to mix colors and experiment with different tools and techniques to produce unique and memorable pieces of artwork. Connecting literacy with art will cultivate a love for reading and extend our learning into a fun activity.
