This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year has been really rough for my kindergarten students. The children in my class are all unique and filled with different personalities but what I love most about them, is that each one has so much to give. Most of my children are from low-income families who struggle financially, however, every single day I see the joy on their faces as their real smiles are hiding behind masks.

The children in my classroom might be young in age, but they have a big heart and a creative mind.

They love to just have fun and bring out the joy and happiness in everything they do.

My Project

Every teacher is told to focus more on reading, writing, and math. Take data, review assessments, and track students' progress. However, what I notice now, is that my students need an outlet to just rewind. I sometimes don't see my students for days, and sometimes for weeks. I don't know what goes on at home, but in school, I want to provide them with a creative outlet where they can relax and destress.

I want to bring out the creative side to my kindergartners and have them enjoy and relax without worrying about grade-level reading, and how to write a sentence properly, or if they can add correctly.

Every year, our little Kinders are given science, social studies, dance, music, and even art. Since the pandemic, they don't get any. Everything is done remotely and it just isn't as fun as it should be. I want to bring art back into the classroom, where the students can do art and craft activity at least at the end of the day and just really enjoy themselves. I want them to feel proud, show off their work, and also have fun.
