Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever tried to learn a new language? Or complete a project that you could not wait to share? My students are in school for the first time and cannot speak the school's language. We are showing our learning by creating amazing projects that we cannot share without a color printer.
I teach kindergrtners in Phoenix AZ.
My students are English language learners. Many come to school unable to speak or understand English. I spend much of the year teaching the class both the Common Core Standards, that they need to know to be successful in first grade, and the English language. Many of my students began the year unable to write or recognize their own names, unable to count in any language, and unable to recognize a letter of the alphabet. As a teacher I need to do everything possible to catch students up to their English speaking peers before they leave kindergarten. Technology has become a wonderful tool to engage my students and provide them with the tools that they need to be successful.
My Project
My class has been blessed this year with a technology grant. We have iPod touches and digital cameras that we are using to build our vocabulary and create projects that show our learning. The class would love to be able to take home their projects for their families to see. Many do not have access to technology at home that would allow them to share their work digitally. The class would love to have a color printer and ink so that they can print the work that they are most proud of, and so that their teacher can create new activities and displays that will help the class learn even more.
My students are so proud of their work and their progress.
If students are given the chance to share what they have learned, they get the chance to be the teachers. It has been said that the best way to learn something new is to teach someone else. Students will have this chance to become the teachers if they can bring their work home and share it with their families.
