My Students
Neil deGrasse Tyson once tweeted "We spend more time forcing students to learn than we do motivating them to learn in the first place."
In my classroom, I strive to make the learning process come alive for my students.
When your school is losing support due to budget cuts and class size is doubling for the same reason, students need to see that people still care about their futures.
My students live in an urban community surrounded by negative influences. Once they come into the classroom, it is a challenge to help them see that there is more to the world. My students dream of a better life and they are working hard to better themselves.
My Project
So far, thanks to the generosity of Donor's Choose donors, my students will be starting this year with 12 Chromebooks for the classroom.
You will be helping my students learn many skills. Besides the basic computer skills that they will develop while using these Chromebooks, my students will also learn about persuasive writing and presenting proposals to those above them. When the students work hard to reach their goal, they will gain a sense of accomplishment and take more ownership in their own education and futures.
By using the Chromebooks from the beginning of the school year, I want my students to do research and write a proposal to the principal and school district to begin a 1:1 program throughout the district.
This project is a variety of accessories that are necessary when bringing these machines into the classroom.
The cart and surge protectors will keep the Chromebooks safe and charged when not in use. The speakers, remote, and display adapter will be used for students to create and share presentations. Finally, I have requested a few additional Chromebooks to bring my classroom closer to the 1:1 goal.
