This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As I Title 1 teacher in Mesquite, Texas I know our students face many challenges in and out of school. Even though their lives have obstacles that are not typical for most second graders, they always come to school with a smile on their face and they are ready to learn. Many of them are from single-parent homes and do not have an opportunity for things that you and I might consider normal life experiences.

Our class is not a place to sit, we move to learn.

We love to read and bring learning to life. You can find us moving around the room in stations, acting out reader's theaters, singing songs to help us remember parts of speech and what they do, and reciting poetry that sparks emotion. Despite having hardships, they laugh and soak up every opportunity they have for education.

My Project

The second grade reading curriculum focuses on reader’s theaters, dramas, and fluency. This field trip will bring a book to the main stage with live characters, and demonstrate the importance of bringing our words to life. The students will be able to see a popular children’s book “Click, Clack, Moo” by Doreen Cronin acted out on a live stage in downtown Dallas!

Through this trip to the theater, the students will gain a better understanding of a live performance and entertainment.

Without this trip, our students may never know that this element of the fine arts exists. As a teacher, I believe it is important to expand their learning horizons, and the theater could help accomplish this goal. I hope you can help us reach our goal! Thank you for your support.
