Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing. They are sweet, thoughtful and eager to learn; each of them coming with a unique set of gifts and abilities that bring such a wonderful diversity to the classroom.

Our school has a great relationship with the neighborhood in which it sits and spends a lot of time getting students involved in the community and preparing them for college, leadership and life.

Our school community has a high rate of Special Education students and English Language Learners, and the majority of our students come from low socio economic backgrounds.

With such a high population of Spanish speaking students and students with classroom support needs, encouragement in literacy and mathematical foundations are very important

My Project

My classroom welcomes students with a variety of learning needs, learning styles and interests. Many of my students dislike reading because it poses a great challenge for each of them, and the texts that they are required to read often do not peak their interest.

These books will not only provide students an opportunity to read books on each of their independent levels, but will also give students the opportunity to choose books that are of high-interest, in hopes to continue to support literacy.

These books will allow students to work on important literacy skills such as fluency ( expression, phrasing, rate and punctuation), main idea, claim and evidence and theme. These books will help foster a love for reading in my students again and help encourage their growth in reading and writing!
