My Students
I am a speech-language pathologist in the public schools. In my role, I work across two schools and support children with disabilities across the grades K-6.
My students shine when given the tools to be successful.
More than half of my students come from low-income backgrounds. They all have challenges with communication, among other learning differences. Help me provide a classroom that meets their needs.
My Project
I work with students with a wide variety of learning differences, and as such I need a variety of hands-on, engaging, and differentiated materials to support their learning. The majority of materials in my classroom, however, date back to the 1960's. They are dull, outdated, and often in black and white. I can't expect my students to understand and learn from materials that reference typewriters!
Modern materials will show them that they matter and that their lives are worth investing in!
Bring some color into the lives of my students. Help them engage with the topics we cover with hands-on, tangibles such as magnets for sorting, manipulative for learning prepositions, and felt boards to bring stories to life. Show them learning can be fun and is not just a printed worksheet or dusty box of flashcards. Providing new materials on modern topics that they find relevant, such as is found in the sequencing cards and making inferences kit, will increase their engagement and show that their education is valuable. I want my kids to be passionate about learning and look forward to what each school day will bring them.
