My Students

Help us bring music to life with the addition of a classroom projector!

I am in my fourth year as the general music teacher at a pre-K to 8 school in a diverse yet, high-needs community.

While we are located in the heart of glamorous New York, our students rarely see this side of their city. Our neighborhood is home to a traditionally immigrant community. Our school sees some of New York's newest residents, most of whom do not speak English in their homes. Although our students learn in the cultural center of the city, we face limited resources when trying to bring this cultural element into the classroom. Please help my students succeed in an environment where we all speak the same language.

My Project

A projector will allow us to experience music visually and learn from the some of the greatest musicians in history. Students will be able to experience "Beatlemania" first hand through film of the Beatles' Shea Stadium concert, understand the beauty of Maria Callas' singing by watching her perform in 1950's Paris, not just listen to Beethoven's 9th Symphony, but see Arturo Toscanini conducting it in 1948, and watch genres clash as Pavarotti and James Brown duet. We can virtually tour the great musical cities of Europe and explore the concert halls of the world.

There are sights best seen with your own eyes and some lessons best taught by the masters - help us bring those masters into our classroom.
