Bring Math to LIFE with Manipulatives & Storage

My students need hands-on manipulatives for math instruction and storage boxes for these manipulatives. Without being able to visualize the math concepts, it is hard for student to master the objectives at hand.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. K.'s classroom raised $275

My Students

Each day I teach three classes of math. These classes have students of various academic levels. My biggest challenge is being able to differentiate my lessons to meet all of the individual needs of my students. I teach 5th grade at a low income school.

Many of my students come from families that have low income and have low formal education.

Our school has a very high free and reduced price lunch program. My students need to get excited about math. With hands-on materials as well as storage, my students will be able to better understand the concepts being taught as well as manipulate the materials to make the learning experience come to life.

My Project

Being able to provide students of all levels with materials they can manipulate to create a solid math foundation is key. As students learn to use hands-on materials, they further their mathematical understanding and are able to relate these concepts to each other when in the math classroom. The place value decimal number lines, and fraction manipulatives I requested will help students visualize place value, decimals, and fractions in the classroom. With this grant, I am requesting wipe off number lines and fraction cards to help teach multiplying fractions as well as storage materials for these items. All these materials will benefit all the students in fifth grade. Students will be able to work in small groups and also independently with these materials to see success when working with decimals and place value in math.
