Help me give my students a new class set of The Magic Fish, a beautiful graphic novel about identity and fitting in, weaving together with fairytales we all grew up with.

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I'm hoping to introduce a new novel to my students. The Magic Fish is a semi-autobiographical graphic novel, beautifully written and illustrated by Trung Le Nguyen. The novel tells the story of Tiến Phong, a second-generation Vietnamese American teenager, who helps his mother learn English through fairy tales while struggling to tell her about his sexuality. The graphic novel format will help ease my students into reading without overwhelming them, and will also allow us to further analyze texts through and using images.
The Magic Fish is a story that many of my students can relate to and can learn a lot from, especially in regards to understanding the intersections of their identities.
This novel will give my students an opportunity to learn by building upon their own experiences with growing up in an immigrant family, planting roots in their heritage, helping their family members with assimilation, processing their emotions and feelings, dealing with social struggles, and connecting stories they know with real life experiences.
