Bring Locksport To My Forensic Science Class

My Project

One of the first lessons taught in lock sport is that criminals don't lock pick, they destructively enter. Locksport is a recreational sport focused on the safe and ethical manipulation of locking mechanisms. Enthusiasts work with locks as complex puzzles and get a sensationally satisfying click of success when they learn the intricacies of defeating a lock. It's a growing community of knowledge and skill that seeks to demystify the obfuscation of locks and pentesting. In the truest sense, this is the epitome of knowledge is power.

In forensic science, students are taught that criminals break in, and professionals lock pick.

As a part of the physical impressions unit of my class, students learn how these tools leave marks behind and the hallmarks of impressioning on surfaces with different tools. It's an engaging and enlightening unit where students learn how locks work, the shortfalls, and how to better equip themselves to identify risks in their home beyond simply locking the door.
