Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at one of the most diverse schools in Anaheim, with over a dozen languages spoken by our students. We teach approximately 520 students in TK-6th grade, 83% of whom are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged. For most of our students, school is their only opportunity to experience art, science, and technology.

Our students love hands-on activities where they can utilize their creativity and explore new ideas in unique ways.

We want to inspire and prepare our students for a career in the 21st century. Having the opportunity to problem solve, create, and take risks in a safe environment is crucial for their young minds. Our students come to school each day eager to learn and we want to ensure that we provide them every opportunity for a successful future.

My Project

Our STEAM Lab has become a favorite part of our school, but we are lacking the "T" or "Technology" element. In order to utilize a green screen and bring our learning to life, we need an iPad. This will give students opportunities to create projects using 21st century technology.

With an iPad, students will be able to record themselves in front of the green screen, utilize editing software, and create a variety of projects by putting themselves in the actual location.

Students will be able to record themselves in places they have never visited. They can become reporters and deliver information about the environment, world events, or school activities. They can share how they used the engineering design process to solve a problem. They might also deliver their state report as if they are standing on the steps of their state's capital, create an infomercial as the final draft of their persuasive writing, use their artwork as a backdrop while they explain how they created it, or perform a reader's theater with real scenery. The possibilities are endless!
