My Students

My students are very deserving and thankful for every opportunity given to them. I teach Math and Physical Education at a Kindergarten through 12th grade school in rural Alabama that serves 861 students. 66% of our students are minority students. 100% of our students receive free school breakfast and lunch and some students receive food over the weekend through a volunteer based Blessings in a Backpack program. Despite many hardships and obstacles, my students are hard-working and determined to succeed.

My Project

Mathematics education is so much more than working problem after problem in a textbook or from a worksheet! Students learn best when they can use hands on manipulatives and create projects which help them understand how math applies to the world around them and their daily lives. Unfortunately, many students cannot afford to purchase basic school supplies. This is my first full year in a new school system and I am trying to stock up on basic school supplies for classroom group projects and interactive learning.

In this project, I am asking for your help to fund highlighters, sharpie markers, glue sticks, and colored paper.

These supplies help students to make foldable books to easily keep up with daily skills. I am also asking for a classroom set of rulers for measuring and geometry skills, dry erase markers for students to work problems on their individual white boards, composition books that we use to collect real world news articles that incorporate mathematics and problem solving skills, and index cards to use for our mathematic terms word wall.

One of my students last semester asked "Why would someone give us materials when they don't even know us?" My answer was "because they believe in you as much as I do." Thank you so much for supporting public education! Your donation truly does make a difference!
