Bring Interactive learning to a Special Ed Classroom
My students need an ePad with Easiteach for a method of interacting with my lessons which provides hands on, visual, and auditory stimuli which will engage them while they interact with technology.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember being in a classroom while the teacher lectured on. Do you remember that feeling that you'd almost get it if the teacher taught in a way you understood? Almost all of my students have at one point or another articulated these feelings out loud.
The majority of my students are English Language Learners.
They are extremely bright and have a curiosity about the world that I would never expect were I to take conversations in the teachers' cafeteria at face value. I cannot count the number of times I have heard complaints of, "Why can't they be like my kids" or "the parents don't care." These comments of course completely fail to acknowledge the fact that their parents work nearly 18 hours a day to make certain that their family maintains a roof above their head.
All of these forces are compounded for my students because they have all been diagnosed with disabilities. Ranging with diagnoses from processing deficits, to autism, and deficits in attention, my students(more often than not) are the undeserving recipients of this contempt. And yet, for many of them, the desire to learn and discover has not been diminished. They understand that their disability puts them at a certain disadvantage, yet they strive.
My Project
My students will use the tablet and the software to interact with the material they are learning. In math class, they will experience the continuum that takes concepts from the concrete to the abstract. Because of the software's capabilities, everything covered in class can be saved so that they may go back and review lessons they might have missed.
Their parents will also have a great tool at their disposal because they will witness their children's progress and in the process figure out the individual and unique ways in which their children learn.
Learning in multiple modalities with a hands on component has been advocated by experts in the field for years. With the RM ePad and the Easiteach software, I will be able to move around the classroom, engaging my students with the interactivity of a whiteboard. They will also have the opportunity to use the ePad to solve problems on the board without having to get out of their seats.
It is no secret that special education classrooms are often the last to get technological resources as they are being rolled out.
What's heart breaking though, is that my students have not only noticed this pattern but have expressed concern. Such observations convey a message of perceived value, and considering the uphill battle their learning disabilities place them on, I feel that this project will remind my students that the world can be at their disposal if they have a chorus of support.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
