This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students ranging from Kindergarten to Fifth grade look forward to their Yoga and Mindfulness sessions. At our school, we have a diverse population. I started the yoga program in my school building during Covid via Zoom when we were hybrid, and then, to the entire school when we all came back. I had purchased the mats and other yoga and mindfulness tools using my own money. It was quite a delight when I saw my students' face light up that there was an actual yoga room in the school.
Unfortunately, the mats that are currently being used are on their last leg.
Students are distracted by picking at the mats or just not wanting to place their bodies on them. In order for my students to feel focused, connected, and grounded as they go through their sessions, the proper equipment is necessary.
Bringing in new, colorful yoga mats will help brighten their spirits as well as have mats that will last another couple of years. A little color will put a spark in their day and realize that yoga is an important part of their social-emotional learning.
