This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are hoping to be the first in their families to graduate from college. As teachers, we ensure ALL of our students have a chance at college success. But what happens when students haven't eaten? How well can their brains function without the proper nutrition?

Most of our students begin the day without a great breakfast, often choosing chips, energy drinks, or nothing at all over the free breakfast we provide.

Again at lunch, many students opt for the vending machine snacks over the cafeteria meals. Most of our scholars, who work hard the rest of the day to build their leadership skills and academic competencies, haven't yet been convinced of the value of healthy meals.

My Project

We have access to a commercial kitchen in our school. The problem is, our stove and oven don't work. For many years our seniors participated in a "cooking for college" project. In the past, our parents have come in to cook meals for our students and staff as fundraisers. We'd like to bring a new stove/oven in! Our gardening club could prepare cooked veggie dishes. Our parent boosters could prep healthy, fresh breakfast and lunch snacks. Food is love, and we'd love to bring our community together.

Students with access to great food have greater access to life-long success and health.

Our hope is to make eating and cooking healthy food available to our student and beyond. Thank you so much for your support!
