My Project
My students love reading novels with fresh voices, and we are lucky to have a copy of many wonderful books for them to choose from. What we would love even more is to have sets of these books so that every student can read them and we can discuss and learn from them as a class.
We are hoping to bring full sets of these novels into our classroom so that we can go through a text together, analyze the reading, explore the author's writing skills and techniques, and enjoy the stories as a class.
We will be implementing "book clubs" as well so that students are able to have more "air time" to share their thoughts, questions, predictions, and connections with these meaningful texts.
The books on our list tell stories that many of my students can relate to-- stories of feeling different, of living in a contrast of two cultures (family and school), of overcoming challenges and embracing differences. We need these diverse, modern, and important voices, written in a variety of styles, in our students' hands!
