My Students

I am a special education teacher in a first and second grade split class in a low-income/high poverty school district. My students have faced more challenges than most children will ever have to. Despite their struggles, my students have been working extremely hard with reading and writing skills.

My ultimate goal is to show my "kids" that learning and working together can be fun, enjoyable, and engaging.

Whole group instruction is often difficult due to my students high needs and their learning styles. Having the materials to teach my students through a variety of ways can often be complicated due to the lack of resources available.

My classroom has a lot of activity going on daily. They are active, thrive from attention, are extremely energetic and come together with a variety of abilities and personalities. I would love to be able to implement instruction through various creative and innovative strategies. Providing my students with learning experiences that are meaningful and engaging will help to promote small group and whole group activities.

My Project

Children need a variety of learning strategies to be interactive and enjoyable. Having an easel and chart paper can bring powerful learning opportunities to the classroom to help increase engagement. Through such methods as interactive writing and shared writing, students will have the ability to actively participate in the writing process. Using chart paper and the easel is versatile and can be easily moved around the classroom or displayed in the hallways. It is empowering for students to see that they can be interactive participants as well as knowing that their work is important. Coming together and sharing ideas helps to promote whole group and small group lessons.
