This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach at an all-girls public school in NYC. We are a Title I school, which means the vast majority of the students are from low-income families. They are terrific young women. They are passionate about learning, kind, and strong. They are voracious learners. Every year I leave my class learning more from them than they do from me. They are change-makers who challenge the status quo. Their voices are incredible. They are determined to leave their mark on the world. I want to provide them with everything they need to achieve in school and beyond.
Providing them with the resources they need is so important for their success.
I teach tenth grade global history and senior economics and personal finance. I don't use a textbook, as I find them narrow in scope and do not provide the sources needed to truly understand events or the world around them. Last year I was donated a color printer, so that I could print exciting interactive materials and give students the ability to print amazing projects and artwork. Little did I know that the toner replacement cartridges are incredibly expensive. I cannot afford to replace the toner and my school has no funding to provide toner for me, and no color printer for teacher use. My students loved using the color printer for all their projects and signs for clubs and activities and the toner ran out quickly. I hope you will fund my project so that students do not have to worry about how they will print their projects and work.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
