My students need 6 copies of "Charlotte's Web" and other related resources so we can begin literature circles and have lots of fun with a classic book they'll always remember.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Bencic's classroom raised $181

4th grade is such an inspiring grade to teach! They truly love to learn, and get so excited when I bring something new into the classroom. One of the reasons I decided to teach is because I had one special teacher that taught me to give reading a chance (I really didn't like it at all!) She didn't give up on me, and I became an avid reader because of her. So here I am--finally teaching 4th grade--and it's my first year. I have 13 students in the low-income rural community in which I live. We call ourselves "The 4th Grade Family." It might sound a little corny--but it's really true! I've worked very hard to make my class have a family-like atmosphere. Some of my kids need a safe environment where they can be comfortable and happy--and be a part of a family. It has worked wonderfully--my kids enjoy school, and that is half of my goal.
My secondary goal is to teach all my students to love to read. Many have never read what they refer to as a "real book"--meaning one that's a novel. I've promised my class that after we finish our basal reader we will finish the final six weeks reading novels--I'm preparing lessons that include literature circles, discussions, literacy centers, games related to the books, field trips, and more. However, I need your help in order to do this.
I will allow each student to choose a book and join a literature circle group, and one choice will be "Charlotte's Web." I need 6 books, an activity guide, a "Charlotte's Web" game show set, and an audio copy of the book. My class is already enthusiastic about reading a "real book" and being part of lit circles like their older siblings, but I know the game (much like "Jeopardy") will really encourage them to read--they love to win games! Also, the audio copy of the book will be really instrumental in helping my slower readers keep up with my students who are capable of reading on a faster level. (I'm not placing my students in groups by ability--all will choose the book they WANT to read.) The activity guide will help me with additional activities and ideas related to "Charlotte's Web," which is especially helpful when developing lessons for differentiated instruction.
You will truly make a difference in my classroom this year and for years to come. I'm so excited about this project--it is a fantastic book, and maybe when one of my students are grown up, they'll think of me and remember that I was the teacher that made a difference in their lives. One teacher really changed my life--now I want to return the favor!
