My Students

I have a dream, that my nine third grade students, will one day learn about the impact of Black Americans...I HAVE A DREAM!

I have a class of nine inquisitive third graders, who love to learn.

They are from a rural Nebraska town that is predominately White-Caucasian. Some come from single parent families with a small income. Their parents work in areas such as farming, realty, teaching, and retail.

My Project

I'm searching for that dream, that my students will one day learn about the importance of Black Americans on the United States culture. I have picked out biographies of several famous Black Americans, and I plan on pairing them up with my nine students during the month of February for Black History Month. Then they must read the biography about them. It is my plan to trace the students body on a sheet of paper, then have the students draw their person using their cutout. Then I will also have them write a small bit about their person. Some people in this project include Jackie Robinson, Ray Charles, Oprah Winfrey, and Wilma Rudolph. Then I will have them tell other students in our school about their person. I have also included other Black History month items to put in our room, so the students become aware of different cultures and communities.

This project will impact my nine students, because it will allow them to look outside the box of rural Nebraska and explore the importance of Black Americans.
