This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach kindergarten to some of the hardest working five and six year olds around! They love to learn and get their hands dirty. My students live in an extremely low-income area which often limits their exposure to life experiences. Because of this, I try to bring as many real-life discoveries into our classroom that I can. My students take on every challenge head-on and would love to have a science-based classroom!

My students work really hard to achieve our classroom goals, I want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful.

That includes having the support and resources they need to help them build their love for reading and education!

My Project

I would like to request new (old school) blocks, vehicles, and toys for my kids. As weird as it may sound, our kids have forgotten how to play. Each morning we have a quick meeting with our students about what was their favorite thing that they did from the night before. 9 out of 10 times they talk about having played on a screen. I think screens are fabulous for helping kids research and teach them about things they do not have access to. But, something happened along the way where kids never actually learned how to use their imaginations! I feel as though families have become too reliant on technology and completely skipped past the pretend play part.

I would like to provide our kids with the fun and exciting (although very basic) toys that we grew up with.

My hope is that kids begin to learn how to play with each other ,they develop better communication skills and can act out conflicts that they may be having with others. I want to show the kids that the real world is just as fun as the digital world. Thank you for considering our project!
