This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a high energy group of students. They are all English Language learners and they are extremely eager to grow and develop strong reading and writing skills. I have been teaching eight years and this is one of the most enthusiastic and verbal class I have ever had.

They are learning to read and love books.

They love to learn about space, planets, animals and their favorite super heroes. Most of my students come from low-income households. They value learning and look forward to coming to school everyday.

My Project

My students are always excited when we start a new reading unit. They know that a world of possibilities lay in between the pages of the books that we read in class. First grade is an essential time to hook young children's interest in reading.

My students love doing hands-on projects that correlate to the book that we are reading.

Students are much more engaged and excited when they are learning math, science and language arts all embedded together. Students will read the new book titles and work on book reports that incorporate science projects and arts and crafts. These students have a high rate of stress and anxiety. I want the aromatherapy to help students feel calm and at ease when they are in class.

When we study science, I like to make large anchor charts to support learning. We need large post-it papers to make posters. With these materials, students will learn about sequencing stories and creating recycled art.
