My students need an iPad to allow them access to the Internet and to give them the opportunity to utilize new technology.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Pearce's classroom raised $800

My Students
When I began teaching, one of my long-term goals was to revive our school's student newspaper. A once great institution, our student newspaper has fallen on hard times recently. Budget cuts have taken away support and many of our older teaching techniques have been left in the dust.
My students are hard-working young people who are excited about the possibility of a brand-new journalism class.
Many of them come from from poor socioeconomic backgrounds and do not have access to the same resources as many young people today. They are hungry for the opportunity to learn new things in new ways!
My Project
I would like to bring an electronic reading device to my classroom as a component of our journalism program. This access would immediately broaden the context in which I could teach journalism today. By having access to the reporting of today through the iPad will greatly increase the interaction between students and text. This device will be a part of our classroom for years to come and will allow young people the opportunity to experience firsthand the means by which reporting the news will take in the 21st century.
I envision the use of this device as creating a bridge between our own reporting and the work of professional reporters. By using an iPad, students will be able to access up-to-the-minute information when conducting interviews and doing research. Students will become technologically savvy, as well as intellectually stimulated by having access to this resource.
Funding this project will impact the students of today and the students of tomorrow with long-lasting success.
By giving our classroom this technology, you are providing young people with an experience with new technologies that our school is simply not able to fund at this time. You will expose these young people to new vistas of the world. Thank you for your consideration!
