This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 8th grade math at a Chicago Public School. The school's population is predominately Latino and 90% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Every year, I teach 100+ general education, bilingual and special education students. The children are a fantastic bunch of kids who deserve the very best education we can offer. I believe that the best education we can offer is motivating, challenging, engaging and enjoyable. To help achieve that ideal learning environment, I believe in providing students with motivating instruction that meets all the students individual needs.

My Project

Itś so excited to start a new year with my students! But this year will look like no other in the lives of my students. Our students will be learning from home at the start of this year. One of the hardest parts of teaching and learning remotely is that a computer does not always allow for the types of interactions that we see in the classroom. One of the struggles is students do not have access to the rich manipulative materials used in the classroom at home. This project will also my students to learn the abstract concepts of algebraic equations by bringing concrete hands-on experiences to their homes.
