This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Visual and performing arts feed the imagination and transports students living in hardship to a peaceful and tranquil oasis. They spark creativity and bring joy and a sense of pride to the students and the community.

My students live in the inner-city.

They live within two blocks of the train tracks and the freeway. Poverty is the norm for all my students and home life is rough. My students all qualify for free federal lunches and in many cases these meals are the only ones they receive. Despite all the shortcomings and hardships they are eager to learn and want to be great citizens. They aspire to go to college and better themselves. They are all English Language Learners and as a result have extra hurdles to jump over when it comes to academics.

My Project

I am requesting an array of acrylic paints. My students all participate in an annual holiday show for the school and community. This year I want all students to take a larger role in the production by painting their own backdrops and props. The acrylic paint will be used to set the stage for their holiday production of The Grinch That Stole Christmas. It is just amazing the amount of talent that my students posses. They are creative and very skilled at painting. I want their production to be all their own. I want them to be able to showcase their talents to the school and community. I am also requesting face paint to bring to life the characters in the play. Student swill use the face paint to transform themselves into the many characters of Whoville.

Schools have been hit with tremendous budget cuts and unfortunately art is one of the first things to be taken away.

By providing face paint and acrylic paint my students will be able to create pieces of art that they will use as a backdrop for their holiday play. Having these resources will not only bring smiles to their faces and spark their creativity but also bring a sense of pride to the community. Help my students shine like the superstars that they are.
