Brighter Reads For Our Shining Stars!

Help me give my students wonderful new books for our library to replace the many lost during Covid.

My Project

We are an inner city, Title I school with a diverse cultural population, mainly Hispanic, African American, and Native American with a generous sprinkling of many others. Our students face many challenges, and the COVID-19 years set many of them academically back even further. Some (far too many) cannot yet read or have lost the ability to do so. We have focused on reading at our school to help ease the horrific learning loss. Our principle worked hard to receive grants to put shiny new libraries in all our classrooms. This has helped tremendously, but our library lost many books when we were unable to collect them during COVID. Also, due to low funding over the years, many of our books have been aging out. I've recently weeded books twenty to eighty years old.

Please help our students have lovely, interesting new books to fire their imaginations and inspire them to read and learn.

We want our students to feel that their interests are kept carefully in mind when we choose books for them. It is incredible to watch a student's face lights up when they find a 'treasure' in the library. We are trying to make a reading environment and we are greatly encouraged by our success stories. We have wonderful, vibrant students that just need that little special extra push to get them anxiously engaged.
