This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In order for students to learn, they need to be in an environment that is both inviting and lively. I recently moved into a classroom that has a twelve foot wall with holes, peeling paint, and nails in it. I would like to make this wall more functional and appealing to the students in my room.
As the reading support teacher I have the privilege of spending my days with students who are struggling with reading.
I work with students in kindergarten through fifth grade. They are strong willed and filled with personality. They are bursting with curiosity and the will to become stronger individuals everyday. They are extremely creative and love trying new things, even if it might not work. In our room, we learn from our mistakes and work to improve ourselves inside and outside of the classroom. My students attend a high poverty school with Title I services that I provide. English language learners make up over half of our student population. What our school lacks in resources, we make up for in determination to succeed.
My Project
By adding a whiteboard to my classroom, the wall will become functional. When I am working with my small groups I can demonstrate the concepts I am teaching on the board. Also, the students can use the board to show me what they learned. It will also make my room look more welcoming and professional. I will also be able to write my daily objective on the board so that the students know what their learning goal for the day is.
I would also like a bulletin board so that I can display student work. Since I work with students who are struggling in reading I want them to feel that their hard work is valued. A bulletin board will help hide all the imperfections of the wall while providing me with an even surface to post their work.
Your donation to this project will improve my classroom in multiple ways.
It will provide me with a way to instruction my students, show off their work, and make my room more appealing. I want my students to feel comfortable in my classroom, which is more like the size of an office. I truly believe that by adding a whiteboard and a bulletin board I will be enhancing their learning environment.
