My Students

I work with a very diverse population of students in grades 6-12 who live in a residential treatment facility. My students mainly come from trauma-based families and need a lot of support. They are fantastic kids when given the chance to flourish.

My Project

The students I work with live in a residential care and treatment program. They are very limited on what kinds of things they have access to. Most of my students have come from severe trauma, abuse, and neglect. In our classrooms, we work on a point system.

When students are doing what they are supposed to do they get points which they can use to purchase different items around the classroom, things like comfy chairs, music, free time, and the most popular- snacks.

This year my classroom budget was drastically reduced and I am unable to purchase the rewards for my students. These rewards can mean the difference between a perfect day and a very rough day. The students have something to look forward to and a reward for working hard.
