My Students

I teach Biology in the largest school in our county. As with so many schools, funding has been completely cut back, and class sizes are on the rise. One of my primary focuses, other than teaching content, is to make this class one in which all students learn and grow to reach their own individual potential.

My students are athletes, scholars, artists, workers, gifted, challenged, affluent, and impoverished.

Finding common ground for all these characteristics is one of my favorite challenges to undertake.

My Project

Our students struggle to grasp complex biological processes, such as protein synthesis, cell division and metabolism. By incorporating Expo Bright Sticks into lessons, students can use auditory and kinetic learning styles to model the processes on their lab tables. Students will use these fun neon markers to teach one another and review difficult curricula.

Imagine coming to class and having the teacher say, "Please write on your desks!".

Research has shown that when students develop their own models and teach one another they retain 90% of the information. This project will give students the ability to interact with material in a fun, new way.
