My Students
Every day my students arrive at school ready to find out more about their world! Our curriculum is inquiry-based, so my students drive much of their learning through their own questions. Part of my job is to provide structure and tools so that my students make the most of their time in class.
My students are curious nine- and ten-year-olds who take increasing responsibility for themselves as they research, analyze, and write about topics in literature, math, social studies, and science.
Our urban school is in a 60-year-old building but inside its brick walls a new generation of learners is making sense of their world in a joyful, serious way.
My Project
My students need this new ChromeBook to improve the student/computer ratio in our classroom from 6/1 to 5/1. The students will use these additional computers to full capacity. Right now, we have only five student computers in our classroom and we have to reserve the computer lab to have additional computer access. With a classroom of 32 students, this limits our flexibility and disrupts routine. Students can't wait to learn!
We take turns a LOT with our few classroom computers.
If we had additional computers, students could more easily research, take notes, put together presentations, and collaborate on written reports. For many students, using a laptop removes inhibitions so that they are able to complete and enhance their work in a way that would not happen if they were using paper and pencil. Those students will benefit the most from this technology.
