I teach a Special Needs Pre-K class of wonderful and excited students.

As a Title I school, many of our students and families are faced with multiple challenges from housing to daily healthy nutriments. Our families work hard to give their students the greatest opportunity to succeed during the normal school year and now through the current Virtual learning mode.

One hundred percent of our student are receiving free breakfast and lunch each day. There is a continuum of poverty and challenges in the school’s community. Our students are determined and motivated each day to do the very best they can with their many physical and developmental challenges.

Magic Johnson stated, “All kids need a little help, a little hope and somebody who believes in them.” I believe in the learning ability of our students and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with an awesome Department of Exceptional Students team to assist our students in their journey to learn at their individualized pace. Thank you for taking the time to read my short story and for helping my students.

My Project

We work with many manipulatives to present a visual lesson to our students. Due to some hearing challenges and physical challenges, it is important for our students to be able to mimic some of the mathematical and phonemic awareness lessons.

Our students show a tremendous amount of excitement when they can show what they have learned.

With each student having access to various manipulatives to demonstrate sorting by colors, sizes and shapes; to counting the objects and associating the object to a number; to making patterns and being able to identify the pattern as AB, ABBA, ABC; and to being able to show their work with confidence.
