Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
What makes my students truly special is their heart, creativity, and resilience. I work in a Latino community at a Title I school where most of our families face financial hardship. Despite the challenges they experience outside of school, my students come to class full of energy, ready to learn, and eager to explore new ideas. They support one another like family, and they never give up, even when things get tough. I’m inspired by their determination every single day, and I’m committed to providing them with the resources they need to succeed.
The goal of this project is to create a more supportive and engaging learning environment that addresses both academic needs and social-emotional well-being.
Many of my students struggle with focus, self-regulation, and sensory needs, which can make learning difficult. The items I’ve requested will help create a classroom that feels calm, welcoming, and stimulating in the right ways.
Headphones will help students focus during independent work or online programs, especially in our busy classroom. Putty slime will provide a quiet, stress-relieving sensory tool for students who need help staying calm or grounded. Magnetic tiles and building blocks will spark creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork during center time. The jumbo bean bag seat and Lakeshore corner canopy will help me create a calming space for students to regroup when they’re overwhelmed. The accent carpet will define that area and make it feel warm and comforting.
These resources are more than just classroom items—they are tools that will support focus, creativity, emotional regulation, and confidence. In a school where we don’t always have access to extras, your support can bring powerful change.
